“Site of a landslide near Vallee de Mai national park Praslin Seychelles”

Alamy licensed this image recently for worldwide educational use:

Country: Worldwide
Usage: Single company – multiple educational editorial use only
Industry sector: Media, design & publishing
Start: 13 August 2024
End: 13 August 2074

So I’ll be looking out for that over the next 50 years!

This image has been licensed by Alamy a total three times for a gross of $173.04. A very similar image taken from a slightly different angle has been licensed just once for $63.40.

I took these pictures on the island of Praslin in the Seychelles in 1992 when I was working in the Ministry of Education. There had been a fatal landslide here which I had read about some time previously in the local newspaper. As I drove around the corner I immediately realised where I was and pulled over.

The workman in the top picture is building a new ( optimistic?) retaining wall. There are signs of the landslide still on the road and at the base of the slope.

What struck me was the enormous depth of red tropical subsoil and the opportunity to see the rainforest ecosystem in cross-section.

Alamy has licensed the image above 17 times primarily for educational use for a gross of $1264. Though taken in a specific location it illustrates something much more general about tropical vegetation and soils. As does the next image.

The image above has been licensed 13 times by Alamy for a gross of $770.

The next image hasn’t been licensed. The Vallee de Mai national park is just up the road and over the hill in the previous photos. I’ve included it to show more about the ecosystem and also what I was doing there!

Summary

I have 282 images of Seychelles with Alamy. Only 29 have been licensed.

Gross sales from 77 licences = $5018

Gross sales from the 4 Praslin landslide images = 34 licences = $2270

45% of all revenue from 282 images comes from just 4 shots.
