Three nights in Liverpool

“The Three Graces of the world famous Liverpool Waterfront (from left to right): the Royal Liver Building (1908-11) by Walter Aubrey Thomas, the Cunard Building (1914-16) by Willinck & Thicknesse with Arthur J. Davis and the former offices of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board (1903-07) by Briggs & Wolstenholme with Hobbs & Thornely, River Mersey, Liverpool, England, UK”

I had only ever once passed through Liverpool. That was very briefly in 1976 ( I think) to get the ferry to the Isle of Man on a Hull University rugby club tour.

With sunshine forecast and a feeling that we were finally coming out of winter it seemed a good opportunity to put my Senior railcard to use and book up for a three night solo stock photo trip. I stayed at the excellent Melia Innside hotel paying extra for a river view ( for the photo ops) and going for the half-board option to avoid having to hunt around for food in the evenings.

I mention these details to provide a sort of outline for anybody interested in browsing through the photos that I have brought home.

At the time of writing ( 9 March 11.10 am) I have processed 238 images. None, as yet, have captions or keywords. I will turn to that task once I have worked through the over 900 RAW files – some are complete duds, some too dull to use or too poorly composed to salvage, others are just repeats taken ‘just in case’ – so there will inevitably be some wastage.

One of my most popular blog posts – actually a series three blog posts – was about the process of taking stock photographs in Lowestoft last summer, and the process of preparing them for submission to stock photo agencies. At least one person commented that they would like to read more posts on the same lines. So, that’s what this is intended be.

The gallery is therefore a work in progress. Fresh images will be added as I complete them, and then the mammoth ( and demanding ) task of adding metadata will follow.

So far ( at the time of writing) the images include setting off from Melton station, passing through London to Euston, arriving in Liverpool late afternoon, stopping at a pub ( or two) on the way to the hotel. Then some shots from the hotel including cityscapes from the Sky Bar.

Up early the next day to walk along the Mersey redeveloped dock area, then inland towards the cathedrals, and the Georgian area of the city. That’s as far as I’ve got. Do check back to follow the progress back into the city and the next day using a hop on-off sightseeing bus.

I’ve included all images that I consider ‘saleable’. This is stock photography not Fine Art. It is a numbers game. The trip cost £510, so at least 500 marketable images would be a reasonable return – hopefully rather more than that depending how things work out.

Lookout for the minuscule arrows- bottom right – to navigate from page to page.
